The Truth About Spa Marketing Effectiveness

The Truth About Spa Marketing Effectiveness

Sep 03, 2019

So, for the month of August, you've been working on your fall marketing plan. You've been strategizing about promotional and educational ideas, and you've been feeling pretty good about yourself. But now what?

Most of you are great at starting your marketing plan, but when it comes down to implementing it - not doing so well. Part of this is because you are uncomfortable with being visible (this is the inner work you need to do as an entrepreneur). But there are two critical pieces to having marketing success that I would like to share with you today.

2 Keys To Marketing Success

Strategy – You may not believe that you are marketing strategist, but a marketing strategy is just creating a plan. It doesn't matter if your strategy is at a beginner level or more advanced; you still need a strategy. If you don't, you will end up posting sporadically with no plan - very bad for algorithms. If you don't have a "big picture" plan on what you want to bring focus to each month, your spa clients or new consumers will never really focus on what it is that you are trying to say.

Consistency – Keep in mind that you are competing for visibility in a very busy and noisy world. People are inundated with information all day long, on their Facebook and Instagram feeds, their inboxes, on TV.  You need consistency to be seen through everyone else's advertising. And I am not just talking about social media; this means multiple posts, emails, posters and in-spa conversations.

In marketing, strategy is useless without consistency, and consistency is pointless without strategy.

Most of you started in this business as service providers, and many of you are still are, which means marketing consistency is not typically high on your priority list. But as a spa business owner, if you don't have both a marketing strategy and consistency, then you will end up wasting a lot of time posting on the fly and this is going to greatly affect the ability for new people to get their eyes on your business.

So I'm here to be your cheerleader in the marketing ring. I'm here to support and remind you that, yes marketing may not be your favorite thing (it's not my favorite thing either), but it's not about loving marketing. It's about getting your gifts and passions out to the world.

What I chose to do in my business is to delegate my marketing to my team members. I create my marketing strategy, but my team members do the implementation. I do this because I don't want to be working on my marketing strategy when I could be working with clients. I pay my social media manager to run my platform and take care of the itty bitty details of marketing for me, allowing me to work in my zone of genius. This has enabled my business to open up so I have more clients, sales and cash flow, while my team takes my marketing strategy and runs with it.

If you can't afford to hire out your marketing yet, that's ok, but it does mean that it's time to step up your leadership in this area. I can't repeat this enough; if you need more clients, marketing is the way that you get them. Yes, maybe you can ditch your marketing and focus on being an amazing esthetician instead, hoping that word of mouth will get out. It's not that this plan won't work, but it’s a much longer process.

If you are feeling blah about your spa marketing, I get it, I feel that way as well if I’m not delegating it enough. This usually happens when you are ready to step into the next level of your business - you’re destined to be working on bigger things.

When you are feeling resistance to growth, it’s the signal that you a new level is on the horizon.

The fear is real, but seek support rather than allow self-sabotage.
